Dunston Silver Band
Dunston Silver Band are based in the Dunston Community Centre, near Gateshead in North East England and is supported by Bristol Street Motors.
"Dunston Silver Band works hard and has fun. We try to play to a high standard and make sure that we enjoy ourselves at the same time. We have a varied programme, randing from traditional brass band arrangements to more modern pop and film tunes. We practise on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm. We also try to organise regular social nights including 10 pin bowling, evening meals, and pub tours!"
Dunston Silver Band was originally called the Dunston Temperance Band whose history can be traced back to 1902; though it is thought that is was in existance long before this. The band are always interested to find out more about their early history, so if you have any information please get in touch with them!
By 1913 the band had become Dunston Silver Band and performed at the Crystal Palace under the direction of Mr Alf Gale.
During the Second World War the band performed as the Home Guard Band and in the 1960s had a successful time touring Italy and Switzerland.
The band had a short period of inactivity before reforming in 1987, sponsored by the local Gateshead Metro Centre.
In recent years Dunston Silver have gone from strength to strength, moving from the fourst section to the first section in almost consecutive years, with attendance at the National Brass Band Championships in 2015 and victory at the North of England Championships in March 2016. Their most recent success is the establishment of a Youth Band.
